Cell Salts - A reliable friend in homeopathy

Cell Salts – A reliable friend in homeopathy

Miranda Castro calls them 'Gentle Little Souls'
HomeopathyPlus! calls them 'A Medicine Chest for the Whole Family'
Dr. Jayne Marquis describes them as: 'To the body, what a really rich fertilized soil is to a plant'
They are also referred to as ‘Homeopathic vitamins’, ‘homeopathic building blocks’, and ‘micro-dose minerals’

What are these wondrous things? Why, cell salts of course!

Cell salts, also known as tissue salts, biochemic remedies, or Schuessler salts, are a fabulous healing tool to get familiar with, because they are readily accessible in more ways than one. With only 12 tissue salts (13 if you count the combination of all 12 together), it is fairly quick and easy to grasp at least a rudimentary understanding of the whole cell salt family. They are also widely accessible to purchase, with many different brands available. They are often on the shelf at a good whole food store, health food shops, and some chemists, not to mention readily available for purchase online. They are also quite affordable, especially compared to many vitamins and supplements on the market. They are safe, meaning anyone can start using cell salts for themselves and their families and pets with no fear of doing harm. All of this makes them, in many ways, the perfect entry into homeopathy and home-prescribing. Indeed, the cell salts have been many people’s introduction into the world of homeopathy, and the beautiful empowerment of being able to heal one’s self and loved ones at home in a deep and non-toxic way.

See what we mean by accessible in more ways than one?

The cell salts are a group of 12 homeopathically prepared minerals and mineral salts. They are the inorganic constituents that make up the material basis of the human body. In other words, the physical structure of our bodies boils down, in essence, to these 12 major components in various combinations and states. (This is a bit of an oversimplification, of course, but is useful for conceptualizing the function of the cell salts.)

When the human body is cremated after death, the ashes are made up in large part of these 12 inorganic materials. In fact, this is how Dr. Schuessler discovered the cell salts and began theorizing about their importance in maintaining health – by analysing cremated remains. He studied the ashes of cremated bodies to analyse their chemical properties, and began to correlate certain mineral deficiencies with patterns of ill health. From there, he created the system of cell salts we have today, where we know which cell salts support what types of mineral imbalances, and what the symptoms of those imbalances are.

These remedies are called cell salts, because they rebalance the functioning of the body at the level of the cell. The support the body to create health beginning at this very basic level. The potency of cell salts is always a 6X or 12X (also known as 6D or 12D). This is a potency at which the final product is below Avogadro’s number, so there are trace molecules of the original substance left. This is why it is often thought of as micro-dosing of minerals. In some ways, this can be thought of as a basic, building block potency, to match the targeted level of reception – the cell, or the basic, building block of our physical structure. These same 12 remedies are available in higher potencies, at which point we refer to them as homeopathic remedies rather than cell salts.

There are many excellent guides to the cell salts and their main uses and indications. A plethora of information is just an internet search away, but here are some keywords and themes for each cell salt, plus a couple of common and popular combinations that are often useful to have in the family medicine cabinet…
